Are you sick of us writing about Sam Smith yet? You will be. The September United Palace gig is in the wings so you’ve got that to look forward to, and Billboard just crunched the numbers for Lana Del Rey versus Sam and Sam won, proving that at least in this case, you might be better off not selling your soul to Spotify.
The numbers are pretty wild and you better believe folks are noticing: “In the Lonely Hour” has sold 278,000 units in three weeks compared with 252,000 for “Ultraviolence.” When individual tracks are factored – fans bought 2.5 million from “In the Lonely Hour” vs. 367,000 from “Ultraviolence“”. While the argument might well that Lana is an internet sensation and Smith isn’t, that’s still a huge huge difference in sales.
But that’s not why we’re here, we’re here to tell you In The Lonely Hour, the second best song of the year, is now available on Spotify. Apparently, it has just been made available but I don’t know since there has been no official annoucement. You would have thought Spotify would’ve been all over that announcement and the reason I’m guessing they weren’t isbecause Columbia wouldn’t pay for advertising space and so it snuck in the back door.
All of which leads me to sharing the Spotify Sam Smith stream.
Listen to it, learn it, share it…
