How important is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to you? The tourist destination of Ohio is chock full of memorabilia and fun and this year the nominees are lined up in anticipation.
It’s a weird dynamic as it is each year and as of this moment, Rush is leading the race in the public votes. Although ultimately that means nothing. The public are one vote in 600, which is the number on the voting panel who determine the winner.
Neil Pert, the Rush drummer spoke about this topic in 2010: “You know who it matters to? The fans. It would matter a lot to the fans for us to have that validation. It doesn’t matter to me. I’ve got the respect and success we’ve had and the opportunity to do exactly what we wanted for 35 years. Do we need them to make us feel better? No – not at all.”
Hmmm, I would think any artist would want the accolades of being the Hall, it’s us the fans that shouldn’t care either way.
Deep Purple is another band up for consideration. Ian Gillan looks at awards in a different way now: "Without being asked I was nominated for an MBE a little while ago. I saw people getting excited about it around me. It’s for the people who have supported us through the years, particularly through the bad times. So I look at it in a different way now.”
This ‘all for the fans’stuff gets mighty old.
Other artists nominated are Donna Summer, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Heart, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Albert King, Kraftwerk, the Marvelettes, Chic, Public Enemy, the Meters, Randy Newman, NWA and Procol Harum
I’m voting for NWA, please do what you can to get Rush out of the lead please.
