This will be my third Global Citizen festival gig if I go, the fourth overall and the trick is exactly what you thought it was, pay for the VIP tickets and hope you get sets as great as Stevie Wonder in 2013 and No Doubt in 2014 -no promises, just hope and pray with all your might.
If you don’t… expect non stop proselytizing intercut with iffy performances and just taking a look at the new prices, $150 – $175, I am having second thoughts myself. I’ve seen all four performers before so why drive myself crazy at those prices to go again? Plus standing all day long, and the raise in price, from $100 to $150 and $125 to $175 is substantial enough to give me pause.
Still, curated by Chris Martin, talk about the “A” list… PJ, Bey, Coldplay (who didn’t perform with their last album which I quite like by the way), but VIP3 isn’t worth the hassle and VIP2 will be over two hundred bucks when everything is said and done.
And all those fucking speeches going on and on about world poverty -such a downer. Just take my money and shut up already, we know what’s going on, we aren’t stupid, we’ve ponied up the dough, now sod off. How I hate 2015, everybody is always lecturing me about something: give my subway seat to a woman, help the aged, worry about global warming, fight poverty, help the transgendered, take down the Southern flag, raise the Southern flag, date rape, don’t date rape, no means no… ugh I am so tired. To quote Biggie, who knew a thing or two, “fuck the world don’t ask me for shit…”
Now, I am stuck between going or not going… let’s think of some of my grades for these guys:
Beyoncé – Metlife – Friday, July11th, 2014 – “ Beyonce has released two excellent albums in a row, but I caught her at Roseland pushing one album and Barclays with the other, and wasn’t thrilled either time. She is too brittle on stage, Miss Jackson if you’re nasty without the backstory to soften it.” – C
Pearl Jam – Barclay Center – Friday, October 13th, 2013 – “Frill less not thrill less” – B+
Coldplay – Barclay Center – New Year’s Eve, 2012 – “Coldplay are the Blue Man Group of rock and roll, they keep on forcing us to participate when we just wanna consume em” – Grade: B-
Ed Sheeran – Forest Hills – Thursday, May 28th, 2015 – ” Ed performed everything with a received passion, it sounded good, he performed well, it was an OK set and it did the job but it felt simulated and received; he wasn’t into it 100%” – Grade: B-
Why would I go back for more???
