This is how I like Neil Young, mad at the entire human species, wearing an Earth shirt, and singing a protest song to save the planet… ‘Who’s Gonna Stand Up?’ is the first single of his new album ‘Storytone’ and the song got a new video lately… I know the album didn’t get good reviews but who is still reading Pitchfork? Neil is 69, he does exactly what he wants – like divorcing his wife or recording tracks live in front of a 92-piece orchestra and choir or a jazz big band – and he says exactly whatever he wants, becoming the enemy of oil companies. This new video alternates between concert footages and a series of human-caused disasters images, from oil drilling and spills, global warming, water and air pollution, deforestation, droughts, whale hunting, animal farming, … and these are subjects that matter so much to me that I won’t pass any occasion to talk about them… I know that all these protester marches shown in the video look really insignificant compared to the big corporations and big money behind all this mess, but people still have a voice and Neil is giving it back to them with this song! How many young people do that, how many young songwriters write protest songs? None!
‘Who’s gonna stand up and save the earth’, Neil repeats many times… I am not sure, so few people are currently standing up with him, when saving the environment, the earth should be the most important concern right now, and should be the focus of the next generation! But everyone is only interested by Kim Kardashian’s gigantic ass which just surfaced on the internet, big time… I don’t know how many views her shiny photoshopped-to-death derriere got in a day, probably millions, and this is really depressing when, in comparison, Neil Young’s ‘Who’s Gonna Stand Up’ video only got 211 views in 12 days!! What? It’s Neil fucking Young who posted a new song, and everyone should watch it.
