The success of the live “Sound of Music” in December led the network to commission a live “Peter Pan” next Dec. 4, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will return as producers; no actors have been cast yet.

Well, I don’t think they can make a worse version than their “The Sound Of Music” and though there is similarities -a musical based upon  a play, and a famous movie  (though with a different soundtrack), still here they cut their audience, “The Sound Of Music” cut across demos, but “Peter Pan” is essentially for children.

I’m guessing we’re getting the 1954 musical Jules Styne musical which had Mary Maryin (another connection to “The Sound Of Music)” and later Cathy Rigby and while it is certainly a favorite of children everywhere (and as an added plus can piss off ABC who, of course, own the Disney-fied version) .

Also on the plus side is that nobody will be ragging em with comparisons and… well “The Sound Of Music” wasn’t simply miscast it was nearly impossible to cast; a true classic so indelibly in the pop consciousness that the entire thing felt like artistic vandalism.

But “Peter Pan”

1. The flying in this post-Spiderman world should be excellent.

2. A good pop culture figure or both Peter Pan and Wendy should really seal the deal/

3. The story is well known but the musical less so (I saw it a couple of years ago in a Christmas production and it wasn’t well remembered)/

So it might actually work you know, oh and who will play Captain Cook… my choice Win Butler…
