I would have done amazingly well in the 1970s game show 'Name That Tune". I would not have worn plaid flares but I would be sporting one of those poofy hairdo's. The premise of the show is to play a few note of a song slap a buzzer and scream out the title of the song. My mad song identification skills would have served me well. This has to be one of the coolest shows of all time. Thank God for YouTube so I could get my fix of this classic.
Game shows were really big back in the day. From shows like Lets Make a Deal" to "Password", people parked their asses on a plaid sofa with a tin full of TV Dinner (ahhHA TV dinner, get it?) and watch these fantastic shows of knowledge or skill.
"Beat The Clock" was another great one. I would create my own challenge in my house as a kid, generally ending with my using a snow sled to go down the stairs as the grand finale (kids don't try that at home and for goodness sakes don't do it standing up, you'll flip forward.. I should know), Today there are prime time game shows on called "Don't Forget The Lyrics". For some reason I just cant stomach it. Its not as cheesey as the 70s episodes and really I don't care who wins a million dollars or whatever else unless I get a cut of it.
Name That Tune was first showing in the 70s and had a remodel for the 80s, the catch phrase "I can name that tune in 4 notes" is one I use way too often and in retrospect I'm pretty sure most people don't know what I'm talking about. Best part about it is I CAN name that tune. But if this was a show using current popular music Id be way out of luck. Cuz it all sounds the same. Now watch the below clip. Its hilarious how sincere they are with the "I can name that tune in…'.
In the midst of all the nonsense every now and then its time to laugh at the way we were.
