Sure I have a favorite Peter Stampfel band, that would be the Holy Modal Rounders the early 60s neo-folkies when neo folk was very neo and very folk but was also in lockstep with a traditionalism the Holy Modal Rounds subverted with amazing ease. They sounded pretty fucking out there and say what you will about 75 year old Stampfel , who has graduated from fiddle to banjo in the past 50 plus years, he is still very fucking strange. Listen to the brand new “NSA Man” –that’s so weird it could be an experimental indie band on Don Giovanni Records.
In fact, it is an experimental indie band on Don Giovanni Records. Peter is signed to New Brunswick’s finest (who seem to expanded with every passing day) Better Than Expected the debut album from the Peter Stamfel And The Brooklyn And Lower East Side Banjo Squadron, will be released by Don Giovanni records on April 22 and the record release party will be two days later

I’d be excited any way but notice who is opening… yes folks that is the purveyor of my favorite album of 2013, Modern Hut. It is always to see Joe Steinhardt perform and I am seriously excited to be seeing him perform again. Plus, call it instinct, or call it my love of “NSA Man” by I’ve got a feeling this is gonna be a killer album as well.
