going countrypolitan and then some
going countrypolitan and then some

1. Better Off (feat Vince Gill) – Sara Evans – This isn’t much of a song and where the hell is Vince Gill because if he is singing he must be way low in the mix. Still, at least it’s country – B

2. New York Morning – Elbow – It took me forever to get over Guy Garvey’s voice, actually it took this song off Elbow’s stellar The Take Off And Landing Of Everything for me to get over his voice. Now I kinda wonder why his unvarnished singing bother me so much – A

3. Holy City – Joan The Policewoman – Rock and roll beat to a soul song… which is what she does – B+

4.  The Upsetter –  Metronomy – Above average electronica because this guy actually constructs songs and isn’t scared to add a guitar break to the proceedings – B+

5. I Blame You – Ledesi – Nice sharp beat and quality r&b construction –this is as good as r&b gets nowadays – A-

6. Wake me Up – Aloe Blacc –The Avicii cut aint much acoustic either – C-

7. Loco De Amor – Juanes – The better the beat the better the dancer and this is light years ahead of his soppy stuff; an anthem chanter and dance song – A

8. The Dancer Disappears – Dean Wareham – He is like the Jackson browne of alt – A

9. Talk Is Cheap – Don Williams – Finer than fine but also slight country easy listening – B

10. Brighter – Ozomantl and Dave Stewart – One of the weakest songs on the new one aims for the rock and roll mainstream and misses – C
