Must See: Jack Phillips At The Duplex, November 2015

Jack Phillips is the gifted singer songwriter, consider him Elton John if Elton John hadn’t gotten lucky, piano player, who had a terrific American Song slash cabaret album, Café Nights In New York, released in 2012 which seriously deserved to break somewhere, somehow, and he followed it with live performances that were simply terrific. I saw him at 2013 (here) and raved.

At that time he was working with Caleb Quaye on his net album, Caleb is the Elton John guitarist from circa  Empty Sky and I heard a couple of demos and was very excited at the time but a year came and a year went and though I considered Jack a friend, he wrote for us a couple of times, I lost track.

So imagine how thrilled I was to hear that Jack was indeed back, and presumably close to releasing a new album since Caleb is with him. I received an email from Jack yesterday:

  1. Jack Phillips will be performing at The Duplex in Greenwich Village (NYC) on 11/5 at 9:30.

He will be joined by Caleb Quaye and we’ll be playing brand new original blues rock songs about New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta among others.

The second half will be wonderful classic and original standards about New York City and he’ll be joined by Cafe Carlyle musicians who have worked with Woody Allen and Bobby Short.

Tickets are available online ($20 in advance, $25 at the door) at
