I drive by the late great Music Box venue every day, and I have been sad since it closed down several weeks ago. The ‘Can’t stop the music’ sign in the front has certainly left room for some hope and today the LA Weekly is reporting that Coachella festival promoter Goldenvoice has taken over the Hollywood boulevard venue.
Their source, who wants to stay anonymous for some reasons, has said to the Weekly that ‘Goldenvoice has signed a 12-month lease for the business, and plans to take over the venue's liquor license’.
Last time I went there was for Dinosaur Jr., mid December, a show presented by Goldenvoice, like most of the shows happening there anyway, and there are still shows scheduled at the venue for the upcoming months (Nada Surf, Cults, Mogwai,…) despite its uncertain future. Recently, some shows, originally scheduled at the Music Box, were moved to other locations, and it would be a shame if this place was not used anymore!
It still has to be confirmed, but I missed you Music Box, so welcome back, I guess.
