Moses Campbell At The Silverlake Jubilee, Saturday May 26th 2012

Moses Campbell are true punk rockers, with their unruly songs repeatedly exploding like little fireworks and their stage attitude screaming youth and freedom, they gave a short but memorable performance at the Silver Lake Jubilee.

Their songs have this curious and surprising construction, as they are animated by sudden catchy outbursts separated by quiet moments isolating Sean Solomon’s youthful and whining vocals. With them, the violin became the most punk instrument, fueling with dynamism their fast eruptions of pure punk joy.

Five on stage, they put harmonies in the chaos and each time everything fell right in place, as each of their supposedly false starts reveal itself to be a good one. They started a real jumping mosh-pit in the crowd after only their third or fourth song, as their chaotic energy was quite irresistible.

This is not my guitar, I don't play with a pink guitar’ said Solomon, who only needed a few minutes to connect with the crowd.

I have seen Moses Campbell before, and this time, they didn’t play any song I knew, and avoiding the easy way out, they didn’t even played their most famous one ‘And it’s over’, as they said they were working on a new album. One of their songs had almost a country energy, but I am talking a Johnny-Cash country energy, with that whipped big sound, but all of them had a different personality.

And talking about avoiding facility, Sean Solomon finished his last song while climbing over the pit, carrying his guitar and mic, while continuing playing and singing, ending in the middle of the crowd… These kids know how to do it.
