Morrissey released a new song, highly anticipated, of course, titled “World Peace Is None Of Your Business”. If it’s not a joke to see who of his psychotic foaming-at-the-mouth fans love him when he puts out crap, then I am sorely disappointed and not looking forward to the album. The song is boring, slow, unlike the direction I originally thought he was going in with “Years of Refusal” which was energetic and exciting.
A lot of fans on the internet are saying that the lyrics are great and inspiring, however, they’re juvenile and not up to par with his usual wit and banter that he’s so well known for. Also, it sounds choppy and it’s too over-produced. Morrissey’s next album is being released under Capitol Records, meaning he’s now with Katy Perry and Neil Diamond…two not-so-quality artists. It’s pretty cringeworthy and to be honest, seems like a bit of a cop out. Either he wants to make more money or Capitol gave him a good enough deal for him to basically sell his soul for this.
As for the spoken word video featuring Nancy Sinatra, I like it far better than the song, but I think that’s just because I love Moz’s speaking voice. It’s smooth and you can tell the emotion a lot more than in the half-assed, thrown together tune people are calling a “revolutionary masterpiece”. I strongly prefer him speaking the words than singing, and it just feels stronger- it feels like Morrissey, not some corporate guinea pig.
C’mon, Moz. Tell us you’re just pulling our leg, tell us it’s a joke.
