Manhattan Murder Mystery Has A Video And It Is Bloody Fantastic

Untitled

Manhattan Murder Mystery, my favorite LA underground band, has just released a video for their famous song, ‘Parking Lot’, a true MMM classic that they must have been playing each time I have seen them…

The video, directed by Layne Pavoggi, is as surprising as your first Manhattan Murder Mystery show, it runs like a little pulp fiction movie, but honestly, I had none of these strange visions when I was listening to the song! Sure, I knew it was a sordid story, although I have never totally got the lyrics, but it goes a bit like this: ‘She pulled out a gun/In the parking lot’….’ ‘Jonathan my former friend/Has been reduced to charcoal lice(?)/Now I spend all my time in an abandoned building with the rats and bats and bugs’…

So I had imagined the story in a dark place, not surrounded by all these shinny asses! The band posted this on their Facebook page:

‘this one day this dude we don’t even know was like “Hey i heard your song on KXLU Los Angeles 88.9 FM and i wanna make a video for it” and we were like “ok” and now its on youtube and the rest is herstory.’

The plot of the story is as somber as these bathing suits are shiny: Drug dealers stealing from each other? An escape on a boat piloted by a sort of poor’s Daft Punk? An unlucky fallen hero? A drug mogul (or is he a Nigerian Prince? A harem guard?) chopping hands as if he was auditioning for a part in the next Bible movie? I had no idea this could come alive in a parking lot.

And as any super production, the film has a long cast and some creepy bloody ending, ‘If you go to the back part of town again you may not return with all your limbs’… This Parking Lot has just enough sex appeal and hemoglobin to go viral!
