Some things work out for the best. Last March Gregg Allman got sick during what should have been the Allman Brothers final stand ever at the Beacon Theatre and so to make it up they included this string of dates during Rocktober. It will also be their last performances ever and I will be going to the penultimate performance on Monday. word is it is plenty special and will be a 210 extravaganza. No guests, not even Dickey Betts which I would love to have seen, but plenty of blues by a band completely irreplaceable band.
Monday – SBTRKT – T5 – This DJ-Producers new album is only OK but “New Dorp, New york” is better than only OK
Monday – Weezer – Bowery Ballroom – Yes, the new one sucks on ice but “The British Are Coming” doesn’t… pus at the Bowery Ballroom!!!!
Tuesday – Motley Crue – MSG – Sure, I never liked em much though I could find them fun. This is the tour where they signed a contract promising to never tour again, so it might be worth seeing em for a first time.
Tuesday – Robin Trower – BB Kings – Hendrix soundalike who has been going for decades, excellent guitarist.
Tuesday – Drowners – Rough Trade – The album shoulda been punchier but live they are the Strokes of your dreams, catch em before they grow up.
Wednesday – Riff Raff – The Marlin Room – Any time you Riff Raff’s name on a remix, you know it is gonna be a blast.
Thursday – Power 105.1’s Powerhouse – Barclay Center – Jeez and J. Cole… and T.I., whose new album is his best in a decade, and if it was a Friday I’d go myself.
Thursday -Jerry Lee Lewis – BB Kings – It could be the most disappointing evening of your life.. but could isn’t will be.
Friday – Primus – Beacon Theatre – Not a fan of these wonks myself but there are worse ways to spend halloween
Friday – Meat Puppets – Rough Trade – Also better ways to spend halloween
Friday – The Damned – Irving Plaza – Are we really going out with them?
Saturday -Justin Hayward – The Concert Hall – I wouldn’t go if you paid me but people swear by this prog-rock moody wimp.
