Last Call: Week Of May 11th, 2015

Dark Bird Is Home – The Tallest Man On Earth – This guy is as interesting as his name but this song is a lovely folk track with a wonderful trill on the verse. A surprisingly fetching conclusion, God I hope I don’t have to reasses him – A-

NW Passage – Surfer Blood – Another really pretty song, a fine ending for a fine album – B+

I’m Ya Dogg – Snoop Dogg – Lousy slice of r&b EDM – C-

Unputdownable – Roisin Murphy – Shouldn’t she be from Stockholm. Great voice, but this is not the good – C+

Bullet – Robbie Williams – Starts like a folk take on WIlliams, ends up like UK pop ballad – C+

Reasons To Live – Rhett Miller – This is a bad song by a man way off his game – C

Christ Among The Broken Glass – Prurient – This goes on for eleven minutes, please make it stop – C-

All Of Me – Adam Devine – They absolutely had the responsibility to end on “Flashligh” – C-

Promised Land – Pfarmer – Not as clever as it thinks it is – C

Skies Open – Novella – Large sounding scaled down MBV wannabe, but so expsansive it works – B+

Stages – Leonard Cohen – The six stages of attractiveness to women, I am at repulsive, then it moves on to “Tower Of Song” – A

Downtown (Before The War) – JD Souther – Not bad jazz track, sounds like Donald Fagen – B

I Need Another Drink – Hinder – Sounds like Led Zep without the Led and without the Zep – C-

Don’t Look Up – Crocodiles – A sweet sounding mood piece – B

Carry It On – Buffy Sainte-Marie – I wish she’d stop instructing me, but if she must she sure has the songs for it. this album has grown into a real keeper – B+
