Lady Danville? Why such a name for three guys? I don’t know, but these guys have talent, talent for poppy upbeat songs with catchy melodies and hit potentials. They were playing in the middle of the afternoon on the Sunset stage at the Silver Lake jubilee, and their bouncing joyous sound led by a dominant keyboard made me thought about a sort of Ben Fold Five meets MGMT,… well, they covered MGMT’s 'Kids', with the most exuberant part of the song played with a relatively contained sonic level, but some of their songs had this kind of bumping-jumping MGMT influence.
The drummer was simply using his naked hands most of the time, producing some soft beats, and the 3 of them were singing together, nicely harmonizing with lots of ooo-ooo-ooos and some dum-ba-dums, making people dance or at least foot tapping.
Yes, it was definitively hard to resist to Michael Garner, Daniel Chang and Matthew Frankel’s enjoyable pop tunes, as the numerous recognitions they have received show it: they even have some songs featured in MTV’s The Real World and Keeping up with the Kardashians! Quite a success story. Oh yeah and they have also toured with Ben Folds Five (of course, it makes totally sense), they are from Danville California and met at UCLA’s Awaken A Cappella group.
It was simply happy-feel-good music, and the crowd recognized it right away.
