Joan Jett and Hot Topic Settle Their Dispute

Boobs in Blackheart

Boobs in Blackheart

and let’s face it, no one really gives a crap.  As I wrote nearly a year ago- Hot Topic the mall entity for up teen aged wanna be rebels started up a line of lingerie called Blackheart and well that didn’t fly with Jett.  Read my original babble here , nearly a year later here we are with word that its all a settled now.

I cant imagine that Hot Topic is doing too well.  Retail sucks and their target audience wises up pretty quick learning that the pre packaged ripped T-shirts and cartoon character backpacks hold appeal for maybe 2 years tops.  In an effort to keep their profit up the lingerie lines was designed in hopes that rock and roll sexiness would be their niche’ unfortunately their current client base is about 12, so … yeah… that’s awkward.

A judge approved a joint motion from Blackheart Records and Hot Topic to end the suit May 12. Hot Topic said at the time it “takes the rights of artists very seriously” and had compensated Jett over the years “with mutually agreed-upon license agreements for the sale of tee shirts featuring her image.” Yet chose to rip off her Blackheart trademark when she wouldn’t go into partnership on the line with them.  Oh well.

The settlements outcome was not disclosed but I think its pretty safe to say we will see less of Blackheart or perhaps it will be called Blkhrt or some other crap- simply said, Hot Topic needs to work on their image to build a more steady client stream.   Regardless.. all done and everyone’s happy.
