Who the hell is Hatsune Miku? No one, its a hologram that sounds like a helium infused twiddle bug. The pitch alone should star a riot but in consideration of Gaga’s fans, this may just work.
The struggling with their identity ‘little monsters’ still exist and in doing so will find this computer generated pop star hip and cool. In fact its idiotic and I would absolutely voice my displeasure in unkind ways if I were in attendance.
Hatsune Miku is completely computer-generated, including her voice. She is the collaborative creation of various software developers, a comics artist and a large digital fan community.
According to her back story she is from outer space, and in only a few years has become one of the biggest J-pop “idols” in Japan, virtual or otherwise.
It’s a great way to save a buck or two on the insurance of tour life as well as other expenses I suppose and its a better way to appear more avant garde, when you’re really past prime.
Gaga made this announcement via Twitter “My favorite digital pop star Hatsune Miku is opening the ARTPOP Ball from May 6-June3!” Later she added, “Look at how cute she is!” with a link to a YouTube video of Hatsune in concert. I suppose it could be worse but then again considering how late Gaga is each stop of her tour, you’re going to have a hard time missing this. If you recall Gaga can be as much as 2 hours late for her own gigs. At least with Hatsune someone just needs to flip the switch for showtime.
