First the Consequence of Sound story: “ George Fest: A Night to Celebrate the Music of George Harrison will take place on 28 September at the El Rey theatre in Los Angeles and will feature performances by Brandon Flowers, Brian Wilson, Wayne Coyne, Weird Al Yankovic, Norah Jones, members of the Strokes and Weezer as well as Cold War Kids and Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club. Further special guests have also been promised. 100% of profits from “George Fest” will benefit Sweet Relief, a charity that offers financial assistance to struggling musicians. George Harrison: The Apple Years 1968-1975, a lavish box set of the late Beatles work featuring his first six solo abums, is set to be released on 23 September”
Next, without wishing to mention the obvious, this isn’t exactly the return of the A Listers. The thought of Brandon Flowers singing anything at all fills me with a wearying dream as though nothing I do is worth the effort and perhaps the best thing I can do is embrace the not beware of the darkness. Because really, it is all futile any way, none of it helps and none of it matters.
Really? Wayne Coyne? I really can’t take that fello out any price. A coupla of Strokes? Which ones? And Brian Wilson, well Brian Wilson I can live with.
I am so happy it isn’t in New York where I’d feel obliged to go…
