Last week Mike Nessing and I were debating the use of cover songs on the ABC Network sci-fi procedural Fast Forward. I claimed the use of a cover as opposed to the original version of “Like A Rolling Stone” during the program was an aesthetic choice, Mike claimed it was a financial decision.
Flash forward a week and on last nights episode both Bowie’s “Scary Monsters Super Creeps” and Lennon’s “Across The Universe” are heard on the soundtrack, both are covers (more precisely: both are crap covers) not originals. Ergo, Nessing was right and ABC were counting their ducats and banking em instead of paying for the rights to the original.
Didn’t Disney buy Henson Productions? Perhaps next week they can use Kermit’s”The Rainbow Connection” and really save themselves a bundle.
