Exene Cervanka Punk Rock Goddess

the world's a mess it's in my kiss

the world’s a mess it’s in my kiss

My colleague Alison Camus wrote a nice comprehensive piece on Exene Ceravanka in exploration of her latest controversial antics.  Here explored is the odd rants of a woman with confused thoughts or is it?

Exene has never ever made sense.  She is the equivalent of mind vomit and from the early days of the 80s through today she has remained true to character (or self if it is not a well played charade).  This being said, is the reason she has been an idol of mine for as long as I have known of her.  A beautiful woman who said whatever came to her as it came to her without preaching and often without direction. How lovely is it to be able to spew at will and have  a forum to do so.

Though I may not agree with everything she says at that core I will always admire her.  Although the follow up story to Alisons is a bit more sad than confusing.  Faced with the harsh battering of the media and redneck culture Cervanka took to her X Facebook site to offer this apology:

A statement from Exene Cervenka:

I want to apologize for using the word ‘hoax’ in a comment I made on social media. I realize people have died in these violent events and we have all experienced that in our own lives. No one wants anyone else to ever have to go through that.

The point I am always trying to make is that we need to start thinking critically, looking past the headlines at all available information and make an informed opinion. My issue is with the media’s coverage of events that will shape our public policy and laws for generations to come. We all need to be involved in that debate but we cannot contribute unless we have accurate truthful and complete information about what happened at any of these events.

The hatred, rage and intolerance of ones opinions and the threatening language that I have been receiving through the media makes me realize that this is not a path I want to be on. I don’t want to be a source of hatred and rage. I don’t like it being directed at me and I don’t want to create it in anyone’s mind. It was not my intent.

I wasn’t expecting this kind of response to a comment I made, but it has been a wakeup call and has radically altered my own views as to how I want to live in this world. I always try to do what I think is right. I’ve always been very vocal and opinionated, but this experience with the media has not been positive, nor productive.

It’s only through positive energy that things will get better in this country for all of us.

Sad isn’t it?  I really hope this statement is a ‘hoax’.   I would love for society to stop proving itself to be so militant.  Hatred and threatening someone for their opinion makes me hate and want to threaten them for being so fucking barbaric.  Let people speak, if you don’t like it speak your counter point but to threaten or spew hate is just idiotic.

I voice unpopular opinion every day of my life.  I challenge peoples convictions every chance I get. Yes I get hatred and yes I have been threatened and no.. I will never apologize.  Yet I do not earn a living off of concert sales or popularity.

Exene you go girl and keep being you.. fuck what people say and protect yourself from the trash who has a problem with your statements.  We don’t need an apology, we need you to remain real.
