The CBGB Festival is in it’s infancy with tons of bugs to be worked out and a challenging terrain.  We’re talking four days in multiple venues, music, movies and other shenanigans.  Why they opted to go so large so fast is an interesting fact.  A two day even makes more sense but October 9- October 13, you can pretend its the 70’s again.

This year the CBGB movie will open up the event at the Landmark Theater on East Houston  St.  This is the tricky part as actors play Hilly Clark and members of The Ramones, Blondie etc.  Seems blasphemous doesnt it.?  No names and sort known names include, Alan Rickman (Harry Potter, Love Actually, Die Hard) as late CBGB owner Hilly Kristal, the film chronicles the creation of the music landmark and musical movement that spawned Blondie, Television, The Ramones, Talking Heads, Dead Boys and The Police. Other stars in the film include Malin Akerman (Watchmen, The Proposal) as Debbie Harry of Blondie, Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) as Iggy Pop, Mickey Sumner (Francis Ha) as Patti Smith, Rupert Grint (Harry Potter) as Cheetah Chrome of Dead Boys, and Johnny Galecki (The Big Bank Theory, Roseanne) as record exec Terry Ork among many others.

Although the full movie schedule is not yet announced here some of it is booked including, Louder Than Love: The Grand Ballroom Story (directed by Tony D’Annuncio and documenting the Detroit music scene) and Looking For Johnny, The Legend of Johnny Thunders (directed by Danny Garcia about punk guitarist Johnny Thunders of the New York Dolls) along with a special portion of the weekend dedicated to great rock films of the past, many with Q&A sessions.

Oh and music… there will be music.. stay tuned for details as they unravel and in the meantime check out this sassy video.  I cant decide if I love this or hate this but .. IS THAT CHEETAH CHROME!?!?!?!
