This is kinda lame mix of mainstream pop, “though the charms of “Ghost” and “Faded” are slowly revealing themselves. Still, I can’t hear Nico and Venz or Magic! and I have tried. Leave me with Iggy, Charli and Ariana thank you very much.

A little on the bland side, right? Nothing sticks out and what does is Cheryl Cole and Tine Tempah. Tempah is one of those UK rappers that you expect to crossover, that you expect to be bigger but in the end the only UK guys crossing over hip hop are good looking soul cats.

Magic continue to rule the world and here they are at # 1 in the UK, I hope the band are having a blast. Plus, while I feel like a bully picking on a coupla of teens, namely Bars and Melody off Britain’s Got Talent, this is so terrible it should be sold with a government label.

This is as lame as the UK charts have been all, all dance pop more or less all the time, it lacks any change of paste (ok, “Budapest” but otherwise?), when heard like this it feels like extremely manufactured and derivative pop pap, which it is. I meant without the fun.

Hell, this is so weird, things take forever to move on the Singles charts, and for the second week there is precisely one new song and two changes in position with “Happy” dropping out and “Maps” dropping in and i have admitted in public before that I like Adam Levine, and this is as good a Police update as you’ll hear. But the dye job, Ada? It has to go.

The dog days of summer are coming and this is the new normal, DJs and singers and singers and DJs. It can be fun but it can get old, this is a little on the old side. I am surprised to see got another single on the charts, only one in the States so for. Little Nikki is a good singer, keep an eye on her.

Wow, except for “Rude” and “Problem” flipping places it is as though last week never happened. So it is s till a pretty good list and I still wish Legend wasn’t on it but at least it won’t be the song of the summer. PS: I don’t think an awful lot of that Iggy’s album. Except for “Work” of course.

The question is, are 5 Seconds Of Summer the next One Direction or the next the Wanted. The Australian boy band was not the world beater we expected, the EP didn’t stiff but you don’t hear much about it either and while a # 1 song in Ground Zero for 1D matters, 5SOS are not getting where they want to go.

Ella Henderson came in 6th in the 2012 UK X Factor contest, and so the eighteen year old went away for two years and returned with a new song that sold over 140,000 copies (in the UK, mind) and went straight to the top of the charts. That’s all I’m saying.

Last weekend, The Neon Brotherhood comprising of 40 fantastic musicians from Neon Sound Studios in Burntwood, who either knew Stephen, rehearsed with him, or were just simply inspired by him, came together to write and record a charity single in Stephen’s memory. Please support it and let’s get it to number one.

“Jubel” is a very good song and “Summer” is a better song but the question is if, in the charts business, it is not the best what is it exactly. “Summer” which should be a hit may well be a little too slow and “Jubel” is a little too sweet, not to spend the dog days looking upwards.

Two new songs here, yet to be released in the US, promise mountains for the modern soul sounds of the UK. “Stay With Me” is as great as the beautiful voiced soul singer Sam Smith gets and this is not simply quite possibly his best song yet, it is also his potential big time US breakthrough. “Extraordinary” is no “Rather Be” but it is still damn good.

Rita deserves her # 1 position, she’s worked for it, it is a good song and it begins to make up for the double standard sexism that has gone along with the claims of promiscuity. As if it wasn’t her body and her choice. Otherwise, I like this list a lot: it is alway better than the US at least because it changes faster and we ain’t stuck with Bro country.

I’m surprised to see Eels on the UK charts, I didn’t realize he had a following in the UK and kicking myself for forgetting Paolo Nutini tickets were going on sale for his June 12th gig at Webster Hall. I did the same thing with Amy Winehouse years ago and didn’t scalp a ticket… maybe this time?

This is a good chart, nice mix of stuff and best of all is the battle to be the next One Direction. I thought it was a shoo in for 5 Seconds Of Summer, but maybe The Vamps will beat em to it. Certainly “Last Night” is the best boy band song since “Kiss You”.

Take a look at # 4, John Martin. An EDM songwriter from Sweden who has worked with the likes of Swedish House Mafia and Tinie Tempeh before hitting it big with SHM’s “Don’t You Worry Child”. Both “Child” and “Anywhere For You” are EDM by name, they sound like MOR 21st century style.

The Duke Dumont remixing of Whitney famous Parton track is excellent but 5 Seconds Of Summer are the most perfect case of product management ever. Social media savvy beyond belief, the Aussie boy band opened for 1D last year and have been poised to break through the moment they release their debut EP. OnDuke Dumont Tuesday here.

Yeah, we all knew it would enter the charts at # 1, that isn’t the question. The question is, how will it sustain the position through the year. Meanwhile… what makes the UK charts the UK charts is that Mike “Tubular Bells” Oldfield is still having hits with crappy albums.

The top three (and # 11 -“Smeels Like Teen Spirit”) were the battle for # 1, with #1 trouncing all comers by a margin of :1. It is the sort of fun thing you can’t, or at least couldn’t, you probably good today, do in the US. It is fun with the charts you can only pull off in a small country

the battle for pop single of the year is a three way race, “1+1”, “TGIF” and “I Found Love”. 1+1″ is the best but it didn’t sell enough, and in the world of pop records you kinda gotta, so that leaves “TGIF” versus “We Found Love”.
