Both my love of silly YouTube videos and the occasional musical theatre trivia, I came across a girl under the name ItsWayPastMyBedTime.  Carrie Hope Fletcher, musical curly-haired extraordinare, is sassy and adorable, and the ultimate female role model.  She’s currently in a production of Les Miserables, playing Eponine.  She’s been in many other professional shows, and even on television.  Best of all, though, are her little songs she writes and puts up on her YouTube.

“How NOT to handle a Break Up” is the perfect tune.  Just uke and her soothing Disney princess voice fill your ears and it’s quirky and cute.  Her range is stunning, and in a minute and a half, you’re sucked in and need more.  The lyrics are creative, too.  “It may not be the best idea to sit outside his flat or chain yourself to his front door or steal his dear old cat; he may have loved him more than you, but there’s no time for that.  And do not spend all day waiting for him on Facebook chat.”  It’s relatable, it’s hip, it’s young.  However, above all else, it’s not cliche or stupid.

“Do not burn the clothes and books that he left at your house.  And do not buy a wedding dress and say that you’re his spouse.  And most of all you do not call him drunk at 3am, unless you just want proof why he broke up with you again.”  It’s goofy, but by discussing seemingly ridiculous situations, it makes it a lot more light-hearted, and is good for someone after a heartbreak to cheer them up.

“But just remember years from now when your life’s taken flight- you’ve proved him wrong that life goes on, you’re glad he’s out of sight.  And he’s just sat at home and life without you life is pretty grim, well, that is how you handle breaking up with twerps like him.”  It’s quippy and poignant, and ends on this powerful and uplifting note.

It’s no wonder why Carrie calls her fans and viewers “Hopefuls”- because she instills positivity and joy.
