Alright, folks, that’s it for me. I’ve had it with Jimmy Fallon. I can’t take his unctuousness and watching his lovefest with Barbra Streisand Monday night was just stomach turning. They performed duets on three songs from Barbra’s lousy Partners album, with Fallon poorly, I mean so poorly Barbara mentioned they all sounded the same, Michael Buble, Blake Shelton and an atrocious Elvis Presley he should have been plainly ashamed of.
If this was bad, and it was, it was no worse than the nauseating sight of Fallon simply groveling to Barbra, “if anybody could get away with being a diva, you could” he said, but no she was gracious and friendly and… Wait. Barbra Streisand??? “We’re just simple people”, Streisand said of herself and her husband James Brolin. Yeah, true but so were Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.
If you wanna buy that why not buy Streisand’s great achievement as an actress, singer, producer and director in her own movies. Impressive? It would be if the movie wasn’t the stinky “Yentl”. But please, let’s not let the facts get in the way of a good story. This story is about how Barbra returned to the same studio she appeared in the same studio she appeared in with Johnny Carson lo those 50 years ago. And how thrilled, like “oh my god, this is so unbelievable”, Fallon is.
There is no really great late night guy any more. There hasn’t been a great era for Late Night talk shows since the young Letterman followed the veteran Carson, we got rid of the smug yet unctuous Leno and replaced him with the boyish (at 40 years of age) yet unctuous Fallon, Letterman is grumpy and gone and all of CBS is a disaster waiting to happen in Letterman, meanwhile Seth Myers is a rank amateur and the other Jimmy sounds like a dog food and mever comes up with the goods.
Fallon is the best of the bunch but he is already settled in his schtick, that lates play his game is one part, the other is let me impersonate Neil Young singing some Willow Smith song FOREVER. It was funny at first but now it is just another gag. With Barbra Streisand, he skipped the game but otherwise he was Rolling Stone reviewing a Springsteen album. You can’t trust him, you really really can’t. Fallon has no sense of proportion and it is like it is cute for him to lie about what his real feelings are and it isn’t cute at all.
What it is is lying and he is a professional lying.
