Active Viewin': rock nyc Concert Picks For The Week Of June 9th, 2014

take a Chance

take a Chance

The last time I saw James Chance backed by the True Groove Allstars he stopped the show at the Cutting Room, now the No Wave maestro is back for what should be the gig of the year. Pushing the remastered and deluxe Buy (I wrote the liner notes) and with Marla Mase -who has an excellent new release herself, opening, this should be a huge huge huge gig. Don’t miss this Thursday June 12th at the Cutting Room.

Monday – Peter Murphy – Irving Plaza – The King Of Goth… and no, I’m not a huge fan but better Bauhaus, right?

Monday Joe Satriani – Iridium – You are usually stuck seeing the guitar great at Beacon, so take advantage of seeing him at this small jazz club

Tuesday – Die Antwoord – Irving Plaza – Here comes the sucky fucky

Tuesday – Willie Nelson – Radio City Music Hall – The old geezer sold out the place!

Wednesday – First Aid Kit – Webster Hall – Conor’s back up singers sold out the join as well

Wednesday – La Roux – MHOW – Disco dance band returns

Thursday – Paolo Nutini – Webster Hall – Huge soul singer  in the UK, a good opportunity to check him out in smaller confines

Thursday – The Disco Biscuits – Irving Plaza – Three day stand for the electronic jam band

Thursday – Sharon Van Etten – A real good album just released, this should be a biggie

Friday – Kelis – Webster Hall – Caught with the food in her mouth

Saturday – Ed Sheeran – Hammerstein Ballroom – Brings his one man band to a smaller venue after selling out MSG, twice.

Saturday – Aretha Franklin – Radio City Music Hall – The Queen of Soul
