This is a crazy story and it happens just at a time when the legendary band is doing a big come back: AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been accused of ‘attempting to procure a murder’ in New Zealand as it was first reported by Stuff.co.nz. It is very serious business, Rudd’s house in Tauranga was raided after the police learned he was linked to an alleged murder-for-hire plot! According to Rolling Stone, Rudd tried to have two guys killed — although they have not been identified yet – and he was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and cannabis.
The band simply posted this on their website:
‘We’ve only become aware of Phil’s arrest as the news was breaking. We have no further comment. Phil’s absence will not affect the release of our new album ‘Rock or Bust’ and upcoming tour next year.’
Rock or Bust? Isn’t it a strange rock ‘n’ roll premonition or what?
Rudd appeared in Tauranga District Court on Thursday afternoon and was released on bail, but he is due for his next hearing on November 27th and could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
‘Rock or Bust’ will be AC/DC’s first album in six years, and despite a good song released last month which tended to show that they were back with a vengeance, it now looks like that they are falling apart: first guitarist Malcolm Young was diagnosed with dementia, then drummer Rudd may go to jail? Of course, people are going to make all kinds of jokes with AC/DC lyrics, as there is an endless reservoir of violence, hell references and other ‘Dirty Deeds’ in those lyrics, but it is simply very sad when such a band, which once was the biggest rock ‘n’ roll band in the world, is ending so badly…
The big question now is will this affect their big come back??? The Guardian is reporting that Rudd was already absent from the filming of the band’s latest video and a promo photo shoot a little while ago so there was already something very wrong… How could Rudd think he could get away with murder like this? Of course if he was on meth it could explain a lot. Meth, out of all the drugs that exist! How a guy who has made millions can go for this low-life-white-trash drug?? The Guardian writes that Rudd looked very bad when he was arrested, he was gaunt and shoeless, his face sunken in on itself, he has aged 20 years and has lost his teeth,… How sad, the real highway to hell it seems.
