Rocky Loves Emily was one of the most fun bands we have interviewed. It seems so long ago but it really wasn't. The band then (and now) were charismatic and stuck in a world of too much sameness. There in the midst of All Time Low and Mayday Parade it was easy for the Michigan boys to get lost in it all.
They have just released a new fan input video for their song "Dream". In a series of stills teenaged fans hold up signs of their dreams and its as cliche as teenaged has ever been. "I want to stop teen suicide", I wish I felt comfortable in my own skin", common pleas from the kids who are battling their own chemistry.
I am not being critical of todays teens. On the contrary I am very in tune and very sympathetic to the generation. I do believe it is a good thing to give the girls (and few boys here) a chance to put up their feelings to the sound of a soft spoken falsetto. It makes them feel good to voice their worries and it makes them feel cooler for being in a video. Myspace gave us the real start to fan interaction and Rocky Loves Emily have capitalized on this idea to make a low budget but perfectly marketed video aiming right at the hearts of their young teen fans.
This video should easily lead hundreds of girls to the front of the stage at their next show. Singing along and making heart shapes withe their hands its a perfect sing along for the raging hormone Clearasil set. Well played Rocky Loves Emily.. brilliant move.
