There is really no excuse for this post so I wont make one, I'll make three.
1. It features Madness! The Two Tone Terrors!!
2. Indeed, and more importantly, it stars Sugsy, the funniest of the funniest Madness.
3. It gives me the chance to listen to some Madness which I never do even though, really, you would think I would, right? "Baggy Trousers", "Our House", and, tuh duh, personal best "One Step Beyond"! Ska'ed for life, I say. I saw em in a small club back in 1981 or something (reviewed it for the Village Voice) and absolutely loved em.
So, here is the story.Such as it is. Actually, the title kinda gives it away but WHATEVER!!! Madness played a gig on the roof of… nah, screw it, let contactmusic do the heavy lifting:
"Madness frontman Graham 'suggs' Mcpherson was given a royal telling-off after Queen Elizabeth Ii's Diamond Jubilee concert in June (12) when Princess Beatrice reprimanded him for dropping his drink in Buckingham Palace. The 80s pop stars played a set on the roof of the royal residence in London to celebrate the British monarch's 60 years on the throne, and the acts featured in the gig were invited to meet the Queen after the show. However, Suggs was left red-faced after spilling his drink – and he incurred the wrath of a royal onlooker. Speaking to U.K. Tv host Kate Garraway, he says, "I actually dropped my cup on the floor. Princess Beatrice pulled me up and said, 'You can't be dropping stuff on my Granny's carpet'. But fortunately I survived head intact to tell the tale."
Say what you will about rock nyc, and I can think of a few choice words I've heard, would BV or CoS give you this story? I think not.
