Beck, is this all your music has become? Soundtrack for video games? It was already kind of cheap to give away some of your songs for teenager fantasies and comics such as ‘The Twilight Saga’ and ‘Scott Pilgrim’, or even gory soft-porn series like ‘True Blood’, but now a video game? How low can you go? I don’t know I have always thought this was the last resort of the entertainment world.
Anyway, Billboard magazine is reporting that Beck will be contributing three new songs, ‘Cities’, ‘Touch the People’, and ‘Spiral Staircase’ to the video game ‘Sound Shapes’. The game will be out on August 7 on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, and each song will represent a different level of the game and have a unique art style that matches the music.
At least, it is not some kind of stupid war, battle or car chase game, it is musically oriented and will allow players ‘to create increasingly complex beats via their achievements in a side-scrolling platformer’. PCWorld also describes it as very similar to Everyday Shooter, which allowed you to create music as you killed enemies,.. err so there’s still killing involved?
Other contributors for the game will include Deadmau5, I Am Robot and Proud and Jim Guthrie. The story doesn’t tell if these new songs are exclusively made for the video game or will appear on Beck’s new album.
