Metallica have announced on Tuesday they will be hosting their own music festival, Orion, on June 22 and 23 at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey, but strangely, it is not a metal festival at all. The line-up on the contrary is hard to believe and super-heavy on indie bands with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold, Modest Mouse, The Gaslight Anthem, Cage the Elephant, Best Coast, Fucked Up, Hot Snakes, Titus Andronicus, Gary Clark Jr., Lucero, Roky Erickson, The Black Angels, The Sword, A Place to Bury Strangers, Liturgy, yes,… you read it right, Titus Andronicus!
The festival, named in honor of the band's late bassist Cliff Burton, will feature Metallica headlining both nights, of course, as they are supposed to be performing both The Black Album and Ride The Lightning in their entirety.
Tickets are going on sale February 11th at 10am EST with a pre-sale for the Metallica’s fan club from February 8th to 10th. The two-day general admission is priced at $125, andyou can visit the website at OrionMusicAndMore.com.
Everyone seemed all upset that Lou Reed was not part of the line-up, but frontman Patrick Stickles did not seem upset at all, as he tweeted the following as soon as the festival was announced:
‘TITUS ANDRONICUS FUCKED UP ROKY ERICKSON METALLICA brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/… IT IS FUCKING ON #MEETME2NITEINATLANTICSHITTY #GAMBLER #TUMBLINGDICE’
We can read his enthusiasm!
But is there beef with Best Coast? Patrick tweeted:
'I'll just tell you guys who I think the weakest band is on this Orion Music Festival. It's Best Coast. Or whatever the handle is. Fuck them'
