Singles Going Steady: New Singles July 24 – July 31st, 2015

new boots and glasses

Stillbirth – Alice Glass – If this is hype, include me in. Her backstory is awesome -ran away from home at 14 years of age and joined a punk commune/band, and that’s just the beginning, and this her first solo single is a glass crashing, brain tingling, weird out electronic masterwork that lives up to every positive  word you’ve heard and then some – A

One Hundred – Travis Barker – This is better than you think it is, a pop move not a rap move, it is easy going money track but everybody is in great spirits and it beats it out nicely to the end: as these things go, the word is lighthearted – B

Mountain At My Gates – Foals – What is going on with these guys? Another great song off their eagerly anticipated (I mean, now it is eagerly anticipated) new album. A UK soul rocker and Paul Weller should be so lucky – B+

Pretty Pimpin’ – Kurt Vile – New Neil Young without the Neil but with plenty of young… I don’t get the raves though it isn’t a bad sound at all – B

Thunder – Leona Lewis – Whatever happened to calling Middle Of The Road trash, Middle Of The Road trash? Whatever happened to bad vibes? This overwrought trash drives me crazy, it is just not good and that voice??? – D+

Hold Each Other – A Great Big World – These guys still sound like if fun. and Kidz Bop Kids had a child: so sweet it makes your stomach turn. Still the middle eight is kinda good. However, my bet is there is nobody out there – C+
