10 Songs: Saturday, July 25th, 2015

hqdefault

1 – Stepping Out – The Fall – One of Mark’s greatest moments, a scarily explicit hit job on truth and lies and media and what it means to be in a rock band but one of our greatest and lick to die for, never been a band like these guys plus he was a sweetheart when I interviewed him: that’s all  – A

2 – Pride – Husker Du – Superb roar of punk intensity – A

3 – Salad Days – Mac Demarco – It is possible he has only one more song this strong and he has already released it – A

4 – Amidinine – Bombino – Rocker from Niger, crosses over adding rock guitar to the mix of Middle Eastern pop – B+

5 – Deadline – Young Fathers – Pounding drums marshal it out on this one: “don’t you turn my home against me even if my house is empty” – B+

6 – Old Rock And Roll – Their masterpiece, one of the best songs of the year – A+

7 – Coal Tattoo – Warren Hayes – Seven minutes long but it takes a quarter of an hour to get there – D

8 – Dixie – Ashley Monroe – Maybe I need to concentrate harder, but this ain’t getting me there – C+

9 – The Troubles – U2 – A dreadful song, geez guys, is this all there is? I can’t listen to this stuff, it drives me crazy – D+

10 – I Feel Your Love (Director’s Cut) – Terrible version, the full rock treatment kills it: it needs a deeper not louder touch. Just ridiculous, what is her problem? – C
