Nice to Meet You, Where You Been? 16 Covers Of “Blank Space” Go Down In Flames

new money, suit and tie

Since we can’t listen to Taylor Swift on Spotify anymore, I figured it was worth seeing how the 15M subscribers strong software were facing up to life without the Tay. well, apparently. 16 times well. Apparently “Blank Space” isn’t just a great song, it is open to inerpretation. The last time I did this was with “Bridge Over troubled Water” though let’s be honest, there isn’t a name I recognize here. Where’s Johnny Cash when you need him. Now, shut up and drink your gin…

Jessica Lovelace – Straight as you can get and the problem isn’t the instruments, it isn’t the sound, which is just a replica, it is the voice that lacks taylor’s sassiness – C+

Scott Bradlee And Postmodern Jukebox, Ariana Savalas – Yes, Telly Savalas’ daughter so I don’t wanna be too mean because, cmon, who loves you baby? This is a saucy thing indeed, a swinging jazzy number – C-

Meghan Tonjes – This is a quiet banjo folkie take – C

Alexi Blue – Very straight acoustic guitar it’s simple but it says it – B

Tyler Ward – Oh no… singer songwriter version, man is this glum – C-

Tay Watts – Country, but on the quiet side – C+

Nathan K – I like this indie folkies take, it sounds right and he has a cool voice – B+

Baby Rockstar – This is awesome, no words thank God – B

Tanner Patrick – Youtube guy auditioning for a slot on Tay’s tour – B-

Randler Music – Another boy toy attempt but a little too busy – C-

Bart Baker – This is just awful, have they never heard if Weird Al? – D

Piano Bar – Exactly what it claims to be – D+

Ina Stella – Add beats and stir – D

Caitlin Hart, Popgun – Professional cover band – C

Spaladex – Muzak lives!!! – D

I Prevail – Not with this you won’t. Punk goes pop is the concept and in theory it isn’t the worst one in the world but compared to Silverstein’s “Runaway” it ain’t much. Personally, I wish Silverstein would cover em and add a verse as well (their one about groupies is brilliant) – C+
