Would you buy this pair of beaten down Vans? I certainly would not, but a lot of people are willing to put down a lot of money, as they have already reached $10,000 on eBay… and I am sure I wouldn’t even consider them for a Goodwill donation. However, these red Vans belong to Mac DeMarco !! This is what he wrote in the listing:
‘I’m selling an old pair of my shoes. I’ve John Hancocked the left shoe. Will anyone buy an old stinky pair of shoes? I don’t know. lets wait and see.
I’ll probably throw some other crap in the box before shipping it, I dunno what.
If you’re one of those kids who tried to take them off my feet while I was crowd surfing at some point this year, nice try jackass. But hey, here’s another opportunity for you to have them.
All of the profit will go to Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.

What can I say? I don’t know what surprises me the most, that some hipsters are willing to pay thousands of dollars for shoes I wouldn’t even wear to bring the garbage downstairs, or that Mac Demarco has worn the same pair of shoes for 5 consecutive months? Did he even bother washing them?
He is probably amazed himself by the price these have reached, and there’s still 6 days to go, how high will the bid go? But Mac is a sweetheart, this is all for a charity and he is graciously answering the question fans have posted on eBay:
Fan: ‘Do they smell :-)’… Mac: ‘They don’t smell very bad’
Fan: ‘are the shoes in good condition??’… Mac: ‘They’ll probably last another two months if you wore them every day’
At least, the guy is honest and sweet as this exchange proves it:
Fan: ‘Hi I’d just like to let you know me and my buddy tried ever so hard to go to your london show. he took a 5 hour coach ride up from torquay and we tried to buy tickets on the door, but there were none, or they were too expensive, so we gave up and we went home filled with sadness I just wanted to tell you that when will i see you mac?’… Mac: ‘I’m sorry, message me before the best show and I’ll put you guys on the guest list’
So I guess DeMarco has just realized that he is a big deal now, because when someone can sell his worn out shoes for $10,000 on the internet, he has totally made it.
