Must See: Lee Ann Womack At City Winery, April 2015

I really love her, I'll think of a reason later
I really love her, I’ll think of a reason later

Lee Ann Womack was in Englewood, New Jersey in November but didn’t make it to New York City as she pushed through the country pushing her new album The Way I’m Livin’ which along with Miranda Lambert’s Platinum and Lydia Loveless’  Somewhere Else, was a definitive country album female division of 2014.

Her first album in six years, Lee Ann has been known to take time off between albums  but the wait is worth it. The writer of the now country standard “I Hope You Dance” is a pro and that isn’t her only hit by any stretch, though there is a special place in country heaven for the 1998 “I’ll Think Of A Reason Later”about her exes fiancee (“it sure ain’t Christian to hate a stranger but I don’t like her…” ). “Chances Are” and “The Way I’m Livin'” on the newbie  don’t top those two but they sure get close enough.

So learning the multiple Grammy winning womack  was playing City Winery on April 20th (a Monday… yuck…), I didn’t hesitate, I didn’t even check to see if I was doing anything that night. I jumped. Lee Ann, at 48 years of age, is an old fashioned country singer from a linage that includes Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton, a countrypolitan songwriter who can sell a song and a singer-songwriter who can dig down deep. A must see.
