Will Butler, Win’s little brother, is starting to have a sort of solo career, as he will release his own album in 2015, followed by a tour to support it, and he has just released a Christmas song, appropriately for the season… At this time of the year, not much is going on in the music world, so he was sure the track won’t get unnoticed,… although he is part of Arcade Fire, so it’s a big deal and every time one of them lifts the little finger it doesn’t stay unnoticed.
The song only called ‘Christmas 2014’, could not be more simple, it is a melancholic piano ballad and a reflection about depressing winter weather, the year already gone with a religious undertone and a few Hallelujahs,… there is even an allusion to the suffering, the wars and the rampant injustice: ‘Peace on earth is yet to come/The bullets are striking the weak and young/Love lies cold and hope is torn’… You can apply this to anyone, anywhere, it always work.
But I am certainly not putting down Will Butler’s song, it’s nice and peaceful and at least it’s a new one, not a cover of one of these boring Xmas classics we have heard a billion times. By the way, had you noticed that the tickets for his upcoming tour are already on sale? So far nothing on the west coast!
