I admit it, this is a hard one to justify, since I don’t think I have said one nice word about the Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga collaboration Cheek to Cheek, an exercise in the obvious with over played and performed over played and performed again.
But I couldn’t resist it.
It being Tony and La Gaga together at pomp and circumstancy Radio City Music Hall, performing the album no doubt. I dunno, Gaga can be good live and Bennett can’t be bad live and I just think it will be interesting… look at it this way:
- If it sucks I have a great story.
- If it’s awesome I have a great story.
Plus two New York icons together at a New York landmark for a show that in 20 years (I’ll be… 77!!) will be a legend… hard to deny. I remember seeing Mel Torme and Peggy Lee at Carnegie Hall in the 90s and today it feels like it happened to someone else, it is so beyond the realm of possibilities… and I feel that way about Bennett all the time now, he is quite literally the last man standing now BB King is sitting down.
I missed the presale and then I missed the onsale, but I managed to pick up a ticket close to face on Stub Hub for the Friday gig.
Tony is 88 years old…
So go see him and Gaga June 19 th, 20 th and 23rd at Radio City.
