If there is a world I despise more than any others, it is the world of haute couture, with its pedantic people who pretend they are actually doing something important for humanity. I am a woman and not interested at all by fashion, as I am well aware that a haute couture dress would very probably cost one year of my salary, and that only a tiny group of customers can actually afford anything that comes from Dior, Chanel, Versace, Armani…honestly why would you want to wear anything that could feed a small town for a week? Just to show how rich you are? Lame!
I know it is more and more difficult to distinguish a quote from Kanye West to a one from Karl Lagerfeld, and this is a bad sign for both men: both of them have egos that could not fit in the same room and they share a taste for ostentatious objects, meretricious and expensive stuff. I even read they had lunch together, so this was about to happen, Karl Lagerfeld is trying to step a foot in the music business, with the launch of some luxury headphones featuring Chanel’s signature. The haute couture designer has teamed up with Monster Audio to release these leather headphones for the modest price of…. $5,000.
Metro’s Tech Editor James Day declared:
‘Audio brand Monster are no strangers to the outrageous, having recently teamed up with Lamborghini to release a limited edition €3.3 million Veneno sports car.’
‘The company used to make headphones for Beats by Dre before an acrimonious split sent both companies in different directions. Monster has concentrated on high-profile collaborations with fashion and sporting brands, so a set of Chanel headphones doesn’t come as a huge surprise.’
‘What does, however, is that price tag. While the sound is likely to be exceptional it’s possibly nothing you wouldn’t experience on a pair costing a tenth of the price. You are probably, as you might expect, paying for the exclusivity and the Chanel name.
‘But they actually look pretty smooth, and given Monster has a penchant for the garish designs popular with Americans, Karl Largerfeld’s has clearly had plenty of input here.’
These headphones debuted at the Chanel Autumn Winter 2014 catwalk show in Paris, as models sported the headphones on the runway.
I bet Kanye is gonna buy a whole collection of these, however, I will stick to my $20 Philips headphones, they are totally fine.
