I get why people don’t like Maroon 5, there is something both spacey and arrogant about Adam Levine and the band are not a rock band, they are a pop. Their hits are pop songs and at their heart their ambitions are very limited: they want to be in the charts and they will be and are the charts. By the time of their third huge album, Hands All Over, Mutt Lange might have been steering but Shellback and Benny Blanco were taking the wheel from time to time.
It was in 2008 I saw the band at MSG and I have been a fan ever since. You can’t claim M5 sold out,the five year break between the first iteration of the band, Kara’s Flowers and the current pop dance ensemble, proved they didnt want to be a rock band. They wanted to be pop stars. Adam did. Adam is. How big? The Muppets covered “Move Like Jagger” -now that’s big.
The MSG gig was a masterful victory lap in the city Adam’s parents still live at the citadel of live music to a sold out audience and the entire band upped their game. This is the return home and if V isn’t a great album, I bet Maroon 5 are great on Thursday, March 5th, 2015 (another year gone, right?). Magic! are opening… yuck but maybe they’ll be good.
Not that you can’t look it up yourself but here is the V Spotify link.
