No VIPs For Savages

“Rock music is here to bring people together, rich and poor, young and old. Don’t let the fuckers make you pay more for a decent spot in the field.”

That is Savages singer Jehnny Beth talking and she would add a comment about “”a capitalist attitude when music should be for everyone.”

And she is discussing VIP tickets to music festivals.

I won’t go to a music festival without a VIP pass and I am not the slightest bit elitist I promise you, I just can’t see any percentage in checking out a band from a million miles away. It is all downside and if you won’t or can’t pay the freight, you won’t or can’t get close, well, what you are getting is what you paid.

I am quite old for this game, I am in my 50s, too old for standing all day long to reach the back of the crowd, the difference between VIP and General Admission is so big it shouldn’t be messed with for an old timer like me. If it wasn’t for VIP I wouldn’t bother with Governors Ball or Electric Zoo. It is too much hassle and speaking of which… I am passing on Electric zoo this year because

1. I can’t get behind live DJs for the most part, oh I can take take it for a coupla hours but by the end I find it incredibly boring.

2. Security is going to be a nightmare and I think I’ll pass thanks.

Back to the initial question, does Beth think there shouldn’t be first class on airlines? Does she think she shouldn’t stand at the side of the stage during a concert? Does she think all food should cost the same? I don’t get the complaint, it is silly.
