You have to love Ryan Adams, he stays true to his values and it seems that he will never change. His eighth and upcoming album is due on September 8th and recorded in his own Pax-Am Los Angeles studio, and he was speaking to NME this week. His last single has taken a rather classic rock direction but Ryan doesn’t care if you like his music or not:
‘I’m too old to care who likes my records. It’s all bullshit anyway. People make judgments about records but the music is eternal. I like ‘Be Here Now’. I don’t even care if Noel Gallagher doesn’t like it, because you know what? I will take two bong hits and that record will blow my mind.’
However, he totally cares about what he likes or not and he also revealed that he spent at least $100,000 on a record with Glyn Johns which he decided to scrap afterwards, ‘It was slow, adult shit. I’m just over that,’ he explained to NME without saying much more about this mysterious album.
Slow adult shit? Ryan’s love for death and black metal must have gotten in the way, and talking about darkness, he also came up with a video for his Tom Petty-esque tune ‘Gimme Something Good’ the single of his new album, and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is all over the black and white mini movie. I didn’t expect this, I hadn’t pictured anything ghoulish or any macabre candelabra and haunted mansion when I listened to it for the first time. But I once saw Elvira in person, she seems to go out around Halloween in Hollywood, and this cleavage is totally real,… or not.
