Mini series used to be a big thing. A few weeks of fill in usually over summer to keep you coming back to networks in the midst of rerun hell. Some have been quite good and some have been horrible and now NBC is taking on the Beatles and its pretty darn terrifying.
Its VERY difficult to cast something like this- the faces so completely embedded in peoples minds that to have anyone attempt to resemble always come off campy. Of course some shows go the other way and make no effort- which is just as bad. You simply cannot win. The Beatles are the most infamous faces in rock and roll- this could be bad.
According to Deadline Hollywood: NBC is in early stages of development of an eight-episode event series about The Beatles that would tell the story of the greatest band of all time. The series will be written by The Tudors Michael Hirst, who will executive produce with Tudors executive producers Ben Silverman and Teri Weinberg. The project reunites the trio with NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt, who greenlighted The Tudors while he ran Showtime. The Beatles limited series is part of NBC’s push in event programming area that includes live productions like The Sound Of Music, miniseries like Rosemary’s Baby, and limited series like the 12-part Biblefollow-up A.D.
This is bad news my friend. There is no way they can pull this off and no matter what they do it will look silly. You cant duplicate these guys and any attempt will be so campy it would be painful.
I have a funny this will never get to the screen, but hey you never know. Best to just let the band live as legend without attempting to cash in.
