With a major label album about to be released and a major US tour going very wrong, Morrissey pulled the plug early this week and cancelled a huge gig for him at Barclay Center among others and begging an answer to the question, how the hell was this tour insured to start with?
It seems incredible that after his disastrous 2012 tour, which also ended with cancellations aplenty, Moz got insurance for the 2014 jaunt and also, even more remarkable, that he did so without a check up which found him capable of catching a virus from Kristeen so virulent he had to cancel the midtour.
As for Kristeen, we have a word for what is being done to her: disaster control. Nothing in her bands and her her statements seem to fit in with an illness so bad she had to leave, Why would a band member claim to have been thrown off the “Wayne Newton Tour” if Kristeen quit for health reasons? Kristeen has officially said she had allergies and was thrown off the tour. All of which has the clear ring of truth. Obviously, Moz was not well enough to tour, put pressure on himself due to the new album, and crashed and burned.
So what next for Morrissey?
1. If the new album sounds well, if it reaches 250,000 sales worldwide, he will live to fight another day one way or the other. But unlike most pop artists he must move units, because you want major streaming to sell concert tickets and his touring days may very well be over,
2. If it doesn’t sell well he should write more memoirs, music criticism, thoughts on cruel Britannia and like that and NOT FICTION. He certainly isn’t Oscar Wilde.
3. He needs to really get his health into shape.
4. He needs to work long and hard on his songwriting and it is time he joined forces with a music composer equal to his lyric writing.
5. He should become an official spokesperson for Animal Rights.
But I can’t see him touring again. Not in the States at least -I don’t see how he can get somebody to insure him. It just doesn’t feel possible to me, he can’t tour without it and he can’t get it. Make no mistake, this is a major disaster for Morrissey and however many notes he gets from the doctors nobody is going to be believe anything but he is very fragile.
Not a good time for Moz friends.
