Tightrope walker
Tightrope walker

1. Tightrope – Janelle Monae – Maybe the highlight of Friday’s entire day at Governor Ball on Friday, this is a pure rhythm dance track, ridiculously modern disco blaster.  Big Boi’s rap only makes it that much better. Janelle was a star after this – A

2. Looking After Number One – The Boomtown Rats – Early punks ode to ultra solipsism was mistaken as Irish punk, maybe because of the hairdos and skinny jeans, but is more mainstream than the Clash were at that time – B+

3. Taken For A Fool – The Strokes – Julian’s last great song as he channels his inner Elvis Costello – A

4. She’s So Modern – The Boomtown Rats – She’s so 20th century, she’s so 1970s… and still a tonic for the troops – B+

5. Long Hair – Drowners – Great song, they totally screwed it up at GB – A

6.  Codeine – Jason Isbell – Introduced as a real country song (“I know because I wrote it”), one of his best – A

7. Feel It All Around – Washed Out – A big song for them, sounds bigger live – B+

8. Left And Right In The Dark – Julian Casablancas – All I wanted from the solo (well + Voidz) Julian, was more songs like this and I’m not gonna get it – A

9. Hold On, Hold On –  Neko Case – Great guitar sound, but her voice bores me – B

10. Bulletproof – La Roux – Huge blast of disco synths – A
