Alex G’s makin’ waves, and with the new tune, “Harvey”, I’m pretty sure that when he releases his first full length on Orchid Tapes, it’ll be one of the best albums the label’s ever put out. “DSU”, which will also be his first on vinyl, is due out on June 17th, is up for preorder and you better get on it now because they’re super limited.
“Harvey” is a dreamy lo-fi jam that has a summery free-flowing feel that I can’t help but love. It seems more loose than their previous releases, and I enjoy it. It’s so smooth and is one of those songs that deserves to be blasted when you’re driving on a nice warm day. All the layers and harmonies fit so well together, creating a complex and intriguing mix of sound that is not only impressive, but fascinating. Alex G has always blown me away with the ability to create both intense and intensely unique noise that’s so aurally pleasing.
“Hollow”, another tune released off the upcoming record, gives a hint of old Alex G and a dash of newness as well. The falsetto is classic of AG, and totally fits the bedroom pop feel that Orchid Tapes artists have. It sounds so drifty and calm, making it feel distant and perfect background music for a chill day. I can hear this being the soundtrack to a lot of moments this summer- it’s so versatile, and every time I listen to it, I hear something new to love. It’s a masterpiece.
