The Beatles Play Central Park June 3rd, 2014… Sort Of

Got to get Earth Wind And Fire into your life

Got to get Earth Wind And Fire into your life

Last year City Parks Foundation offered up Sinatra In The Park for their annual gala. Featuring John Pizzarelli as band leader and a cast of thousands including the great Judy Collins to name but one it was a terrific line up of songs and singers and a first rate swing band behind every artist, read all about it here. So how can you beat that?

How about the Beatles? Well, that’s what City Park Foundation are doing on Tuesday June 3rd. Honoring the co-chair of Loews Corporation Andrew Tisch, the first thing that a pop picker like yours truly will notice is the return of the great Marshall Crenshaw. No shocker there from the man who got his start in “Beatlemania”, But the next name you’ll note is Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind And Fire. Suprised? Did you forget “Got To Get You Into My Life”? EW&F covered it for the dreaded 1978 “Sgt. Peppers” album.

Lots of other first tier names as well, plus with McCartney sick in a hospital in Japan (why does he keep going back there?) it is an even more fitting tribute to the greatest pop band of all time.
