Ah, Chrissie. One of the few idols who have never let me down. I have always admired how she has remained true to herself despite her brushes with pop stardom. Somehow she managed to be a beautiful strong woman without twerkin or simulating fellatio on stage.
I only wish there were more artists who followed her path. Oh well, makes her all the more glorious a ‘grande dame’ of the scene.
She stomps up with this new ditty “You or No One” and although it starts off in that nasal pitch I tend to dislike it evolves into a perfectly perfect toe tapping pop tune. Wow, it sounds like 1986 but in a good way. Soft and simplistic Chrissies first solo effort just took a nice 180 from crap to cool and I could not be more thrilled about it.
Chrissie said; ‘I wanted to make a power pop album you could dance to ‘ Abba meets John Lennon. I think life is serious, and you should take it seriously, but in rock n roll either have a laugh or don’t come to the party’.
I think those may just be words to live by. Now let’s not go nuts here this is not by any means her best work but it does show that at age 62 you can still be as cool as ever It’s tough to consider this a ‘solo’ work when her voice even in the Pretenders has always been the star of the show. . This blows away the first single ‘leaked’ , “Dark Sunglasses”. The new album now has a yin and a yang- looking forward to see what else will turn up on it.
The album, titled ‘Stockholm’, will be released on June 9.
