This isn’t about “The Voice”, this is about a new generation of good stuff and girls and pick up trucks and of this new generation of country stars male division, only Dierks Bentley, Brad Paisley and Jamie Johnson can compare with Blake Shleton -the country star who married Miranda Lambert and became a judge on “The Vouce” and then, last year, released his best album to date Based On A True Story.
So buying a tix to this show, August 1st at MSG was a simple enough choice, even if it means sitting through the dreadful Band Perry. Blake played New Jersey last summer so this show has been a long time coming but should be an instanateous sell out and should be a damn good show. the setlist is pretty terrific and all the stuff on Based On a true story is above average country roll.
This is music that is both country sharp and good natured in the extreme, if the songs were worse it would be as sloppy as jello, flopping all over the place. But the songs are sturdy and in the good Blake’s sweetness doesn’t overwhelm his songs; the toughness is structural. Maybe he is playing McCartney to Brad Paisley’s Lennon; despite Shelton’s tough vidage, he is a cutie pie and a nice guy,
How this plays out on stage is anybodies guess… well, actually since they’ve been touring since summer 2013 what I might means is everybody’s assumption. But it is my guess that anybody whose cmon line to his audience is ““I drug my big ass out here for two reasons tonight: To drink, and to sing country music,”might have just enough on his mind to bring the party.
Plus August 1st -a Friday night
