In 1991 lead singer and rock icon Freddie Mercury died from the wrath of AIDS. Â It was a sad day and remains so. Â It is awful to have such a fabulous artist die young and worse to have him pass with the stigma of a then misunderstood disease.
Brian May and the guys (for who really knows who they are…actually I do but I bet you dont) limped along and aged. What is occuring now is not only jaw dropping but disgusting. Â Sure to tarnish my entire memory bank of Queen as a band. Â I still looking to see if some outlet is going to admit this is a hoax.
Adam Lambert, the chiseled winner of the horrific American Idol talent show will be stepping on to the stage front and center with the band Queen..as Queen. Â Yes, Lambert has replaced Mercury and the entire world is just wrong now. Â I am stunned that the image of Queen could not be upheld and that greed stepped in for this tour. An unknown may have worked, a power ballad singer may have fit more easily but to have the annoying Idol winner in such a high position- its nothing short of repulsive.
In a statement, Â Lambert commented: “I’m completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon. The thought of sharing the stage for a full set in North America is so beautifully surreal. I’m honored to be able to pay my respects to Freddie’s memory; he’s a personal hero of mine, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band. I know this tour will be a huge milestone for me, and with the support of Brian, Roger and the rest of the band, I feel like magic will be on display.”
I feel that if I wasnt such a lazy old beast I would go to these shows just to protest the atrocity. Â Cash over common sense and one of the most disrespectful consolation prizes I have ever seen. Â Honestly, I still think its a prank. Â I hope this tour is a financial disaster if only in memory of Freddie.
The tour will start at Chicago’s United Center on June 19 and finish up on July 20 at Washington DC. Â Figure out the dates yourself, I refuse to promote them.
